World AIDS Day

“One World. One Hope.”
Theme for 1996

The 1996 theme for World AIDS Day has been announced: “One World. One Hope.” This theme emphasizes the need for people everywhere to put aside their differences and to work together to face the challenge of slowing down the epidemic and alleviating its impact. At the same time it reflects a universal aspiration to find the means to prevent and cure HIV/AIDS.

World AIDS Day, observed annually on December 1, is the culmination of HIV/AIDS awareness activities and programs planned throughout the year. As in years past, the American Association for World Health will produce an action kit to help groups and communities coordinate efforts in observance of this day, as well as throughout the year. Activities range in diversity: action days in schools, distribution of condoms and prevention literature, testimonies by people living with HIV/AIDS, candlelight memorial vigils, and the release of songs of inspiration and works of art.
