Mothers’ Voices United to End AIDS Holds Annual Mother’s Day Observance
Messages to Elected Officials
Mothers’ Voices United to End AIDS, a national grassroots organization dedicated to mobilizing mothers as AIDS educators and advocates, will hold it sixth annual Mother’s Day campaign in May. The annual campaign, which includes sending Mother’s Day greetings to members of Congress, the President and local State Governors, has generated more than a million messages supporting AIDS research and prevention.
This year, Mothers’ Voice is calling on the entire community to “sustain the commitment to fight against AIDS,” said Ann Kurth, Executive Director. Mothers’ Voices produces cards which participants are invited to sign and collect additional signatures from family members, work colleagues and neighbors. The signed cards are returned to Mothers’ voices for delivery to the White House, the Capitol, and Statehouses across the nation.
The Mother’s Day card kits are available to AIDS organizations and ministries free of charge. However, with only two cards per kit, a minimum order of 20 is necessary. Ordering by early March ensures that cards will be received by April 7. Mother’s Day is May 11.
Additionally, each organization will receive a press kit, including sample press release, talking points, an the results of the second annual poll of mothers’ opinions on AIDS prevention.
This activity is an effective way to enlist the support of mothers in each community and develop closer ties between families and AIDS ministries and AIDS organizations locally.
