At One with One’s Self

Peter Drucker writes that one third of a person’s life should be spent in quiet time, quite alone. Henri Nouwen has said: night is for solitude, morning for community, afternoon for ministry. Jesus knew this. One is struck by the number of times he seeks to be alone and encourages others to do likewise. No life is composed entirely of such moments, none is whole, complete, without the deliberate and single-minded opportunity to be at one with one’s self, with the world that surrounds us and with God who creates and sustains us.
