USAID Announces CORE Grants
At the February “Prescription for Hope” conference, Andrew Natsios, administrator of the U.S. Agency for International Development, announced the 29 recipients of USAID’s CORE (Communities Responding to the HIV/AIDS Epidemic) Initiative grants. The grants of less than $5,000 provide small community-based organizations with funding for prevention and care of people with HIV/AIDS and their families. Most went to groups in Africa. “The war on AIDS will be a long and arduous one,” Natsios said, “but with the help of the people and [faith-based] organizations, it is a war that we ultimately will win.” USAID will spend $435 million on HIV/AIDS efforts this year.
