Safe Sex Kits in Demand in Indiana
Living with AIDS and Dignity, an Indiana organization working with HIV+ people in financial need, said it is having difficulty meeting the area’s increased demand for safe-sex kits. Between July and October it distributed nearly 8,700 kits, which contain three condoms, a packet of lubricant, HIV/AIDS statistics, and the phone numbers of HIV testing sites. In the previous 12 months, only 5,300 kits were distributed. Co-director James Toloday said his group does not have the money it needs to provide enough kits because some people are “reluctant” to donate to HIV/AIDS organization. Another Indiana activist, Paula French, said that “Congress is tightening how the CDC is dispensing funds. We never had to go through this type of administration paperwork before.”
