What You Can Do for World AIDS Day

  • Schedule a healing service or a candlelight service of remembrance.
  • Invite people living with HIV/AIDS to speak to the congregation or an educational event.
  • Distribute HIV/AIDS fact sheets and red ribbons on the Sunday before World AIDS Day.
  • Talk with young people about prevention as part of youth ministry and during preparation for confirmation.
  • Encourage pastors to give sermons on HIV/AIDS.
  • Publicly recognize the work of care teams and other groups responding to the epidemic.
  • Create an AIDS quiz to stimulate open discussion about AIDS in your congregation.
  • During worship, pray regularly for people infected with HIV, those living with AIDS, and their families and friends.
  • Write a letter to or an article for your local newspaper supporting observance of World AIDS Day.
  • Bring panels from the AIDS Memorial Quilt to your community.
  • Sew squares for the Quilt and present them to the NAMES Project.
  • Ask the local library to set up a special display of books and resource materials on HIV/AIDS.
  • Promote and join in interfaith observances of World AIDS Day.
  • Encourage your work places to display information about HIV/AIDS.
