Highlights of the January Board Meeting

Among the items on the agenda when the board met in January at Christ Church Cathedral in Nashville were the following:

  • Hurricane Katrina Relief: In response to NEAC ’s appeal, NEAC received $3,000 from the Society of Saint John the Evangelist and more than $4,000 total from the appeal. The board voted to send $2,000 to the New Orleans AIDS Organization and $2,000 to the AIDS Service Coalition of Hattiesburg, MS., to help rebuild the organization.
  • NEAC will once again be a sponsor for the Province IV Kanuga Retreat in June, donating $2,000. The board is also assembling an outline of how the retreat can be replicated and facilitated in other areas.
  • In honor of the Rev. Thad Bennett’s 25th year of Holy Orders, the board also contributed an honorarium of $300 to his church, St. Mary in the Mountains, Vermont. A similar honorarium was give to the discretionary fund of Christ Church Cathedral in Nashville, where the meeting was held.
  • Revisions to the Teen AIDS Prevention program are expected to be completed later this year, as scheduled.
  • Work proceeds on getting underwriting for a curriculum devoted to the special HIV/AIDS education needs of people over 50 (the All Generations AIDS Prevention Education [AGAPE] program).
  • General Convention: Among the topics discussed were coverage of legislative sessions, design of and staffing for the booth, and educational pieces to be made available in the booth.
  • Three directors were elected (see NEAC .org/articles/000404.html" target="_blank">article).
