CDC Releases 2004 HIV/AIDS Statistics

2004 AIDS statistics chart

In April the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released data for 2004 on HIV/AIDS. Here are some of the details:

  • The prevalence rate was 15 per 100,000 people in the U.S., but it ranged from about 4 per 100,000 in the U.S. Pacific Islands to about 1,906 per 100,000 in the District of Columbia.
  • Three states—California, Florida, and New York—reported 41% of the AIDS cases reported in 2004.
  • 73% of adults and adolescents living with HIV/AIDS were male.
  • Through 2004 the total number of people reported as having AIDS in the U.S., dependencies, possessions, and associated nations was 918,286.
